  • Overview

    Position involves preparing for and teaching courses in assigned discipline in order to achieve course requirements and student success outcomes. Course assignments may occur in a classroom setting, learning lab, or contracted facility. 


    Specific instruction to include teaching the Nursing Assistant curriculum as assigned which may include lecture, laboratory and clinical skills training. You will review lesson plans and prepare for class instruction, grade and record assignments, actively promote student retention, and perform related work as required.


    Position is open until filled.  Review of resumes will begin May 31, 2017.



    1. Teaches assigned classroom courses.
    2. Develops and updates syllabi for courses assigned and ensures course content and requirements meet the requirements of college and accreditation agencies.
    3. Attends and facilitates the student orientations for incoming students.
    4. Develops appropriate assessment tools to determine course effectiveness and assures that student outcomes are achieved.
    5. Assesses student academic achievement and provides students with timely and meaningful feedback on progress in the course(s).
    6. Maintains and reports appropriate classroom records, to include student attendance and grades.
    7. Holds appropriate office hours for meeting with and assisting students.
    8. Maintains regular communication with full-time and adjunct faculty in the assigned departments(s), and the Library and Learning Services area, and Registrar and Retention Services.
    9. Attends and participates in staff meetings and in-service programs within the department and college-wide; serves on college committees as encouraged/assigned.
    10. Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, and student service initiatives.
    11. Maintains contact with the students of the program upon completion of the course to gather and maintain job placement information.
    12. Adheres to the policies, procedures, and compliance guidelines of the college. Ensures all communications and practices demonstrate support of the Ethics for Teaching Professionals.
    13. Performs other duties as assigned.


    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

    • Knowledge of course content and learning objectives of assigned course(s).
    • Ability to develop and effectively deliver course content/objectives and facilitate an effective learning environment for students to maximize their success.
    • Multidisciplinary focus and ability to align teaching with the broader goals and objectives of the college.
    • Knowledge of computer and educational technology and ability to effectively integrate technology into the classroom.
    • Ability to plan, organize and manage multiple priorities effectively.
    • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and be comfortable working in a close, collaborative manner with other faculty and administration.

    Education, Certification, Licensure:

    • State of Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) License.
    • CNA Train the Trainer Certification.


    • Minimum of 1 year experience in a long-term care facility.
    • Previous experience in a community college environment preferred.

    Working Environment:


    Normal classroom and/or laboratory environments with little, if any discomfort due to heat, dust, noise and the like.  Course assignments will be on both campuses, and may include both day and night classes, and assignment to courses taught in a high school or online environment, when applicable. Ability to travel to Harrison and Mt. Pleasant campus locations.
