    The Mid Michigan College Student Mentoring & Retention Department seeks multiple students who will assist with the execution of new student orientation sessions. Students in this position will provide excellent customer service to new students and their families and must feel comfortable speaking in front of large groups. Due to the scheduling of orientation sessions, hours for this position will be variable and mainly concentrated during certain times of the year (October-December; April-August). During these periods, Orientation Ambassadors will work roughly 4-10 hours every 1-2 weeks.


    • Deliver a 30-minute “Student Success Workshop” presentation that includes facilitating small group work, presenting information about MMCC policies, and sharing academic and personal success strategies.
    • Greet orientation attendees and direct them to assigned locations; provide general information and answer inquiries as needed.
    • Schedule advising appointments.
    • Assist with day-of management of orientation sessions to ensure a successful event, including keeping to a time-sensitive schedule.
    • Set up iPads and laptops and assist students with the basic operation of these devices, such as navigating the MMCC website, logging into the Portal, and completing surveys.
    • Prepare and distribute orientation materials, which could include preparing folders, nametags, and/or giveaways.
    • Attend training sessions and staff meetings.
    • Other orientation-related duties as they arise.


    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

    • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
    • High level of attention to detail
    • Consistent dependability and punctuality
    • Must feel comfortable speaking in front of large groups of people.
    • Ability to work on both Mount Pleasant and Harrison campuses preferred.
    • Willingness to work in a “seasonal” capacity with amount of hours varying from month-to-month
    • Students already employed by other MMCC departments may apply for this position but may not work more than a total of 29 hours per week.

    Education, Certifications, Licensure:

    • Must be currently enrolled at Mid Michigan College.
    • Must have completed at least 12 MMCC credits with a 3.25 cumulative GPA or higher. MMCC credits earned as a dual-enrolled high school student do count towards this minimum.

    Working Environment:


    • The job responsibilities of this position are performed in and around the College campus.
    • Some outdoor work required.
    • There may be occasional travel to other college locations.
    • Duties are performed in an independent and team atmosphere. Continuous collaboration with team and supervisor will occur.  
    • The job requires minimal physical exertion, such as walking, standing, stooping, bending, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward (5- 25 pounds).
    • Minimal discomfort due to heat, dust and noise may occur.
    • Work schedule can vary based on needs.
