    Position involves preparing for and teaching music appreciation courses (MUS.275) courses in the Division of Arts and Sciences. Some curriculum design may be necessary as well.  Course assignment occurs in a classroom setting.  Courses are available Monday and Wednesday mornings at Clare High School, Monday and Wednesday mornings at the Mid Michigan College campus in Mt. Pleasant, and Wednesday evenings at the Mid Michigan College campus in Mt. Pleasant,

     

    This position will remain open until filled. First consideration will be given to applications received by November 15, 2018. The College reserves the right to close the recruitment process once a sufficient applicant pool has been identified.

    Responsibilities

    1. Teaches assigned classroom courses.
    2. Primary curricular area of responsibility is to maintain, develop, and teach Music Appreciation courses.
    3. Consistently assess learning outcomes and assist in developing strategies for quality improvement.
    4. Develops and updates syllabi for Music Appreciation courses and ensures course content and requirements meet college and accreditation requirements.
    5. Develops appropriate assessment tools to determine course effectiveness and assures that student outcomes are achieved.
    6. Maintains regular communication with the Dean of the Division of Arts and Sciences, the Library and Learning Services area, and Registrar and Retention Services.
    7. Evaluates student academic achievement and provides students with timely and meaningful feedback on progress in the course(s).
    8. Maintains and reports appropriate classroom records, such as student attendance and grades.
    9. Holds appropriate office hours for meeting with and assisting students.
    10. Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, and student service initiatives.
    11. Attends and participates in staff meetings and in-service programs within the department and college-wide; serves on college committees as encouraged/assigned.
    12. Adheres to the policies, procedures, and compliance guidelines of the college. Ensures support for the Teaching Profession Code of Ethics.
    13. Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

    • Knowledge of course content and ability to develop and effectively deliver course content/objectives and facilitate an effective learning environment for students to maximize their success.
    • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and other industry standard software.
    • Proficient in Mac and Windows operating systems.
    • Demonstrated excellence in communication and presentation skills, both oral and written.
    • Knowledge and ability to infuse historical context, typography and iconography in courses.
    • Knowledge of course content in additional visual arts courses preferred.
    • Knowledge of computer and educational technology and ability to effectively integrate technology into the classroom.
    • Ability to plan, organize and manage multiple priorities effectively.
    • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and be comfortable working in a close, collaborative manner with other faculty, students and administration.

    Education, Certification, Licensure:

    • A. or M.F.A. in Music required.

    Experience:

    • One - three years of teaching experience in music courses preferred.
    • Community college teaching experience preferred.
