Individuals hired into this position will be employed by EDUStaff and assigned to Mid Michigan College.

This position is responsible for teaching the range of courses in psychology (PSY) to students in the community college setting.  This position holds accountability for instruction, student assessment, and evaluation of a diverse student population. 

 

This position involves teaching psychology (PSY) courses to students at the Huron Area Technical Center, in Bad Axe, MI and/or the Tuscola ISD in Caro, MI. 

 

This position will remain open until filled. First consideration will be given to applications received by November 1, 2022.

Responsibilities

 

  1. Teach assigned courses.
  2. Develop and update syllabi, according to departmental course objectives, for courses assigned.
  3. Develops appropriate assessment tools to determine course effectiveness and assures that student outcomes are achieved.
  4. Participate in the department’s assessment of student learning outcomes.
  5. Observe and assess student-learning competencies providing timely feedback to students.
  6. Maintain and report appropriate classroom records: g., grades, attendance, etc.
  7. Work collaboratively with other departmental faculty on projects aimed at assessing and improving student learning.
  8. Hold office hours for assisting students.
  9. Participate in adjunct faculty development.
  10. Maintain regular communication with Library and Learning Services staff.
  11. Attend, facilitate, and/or lead departmental meetings and in-service programs within the department and college-wide.
  12. Adheres to departmental objectives, policies, procedures and standards; recommends changes to departmental procedures as necessary to improve the efficacy of the Department.
  13. Support and serve as a role model for our mission, vision, and student service initiatives. Adhere to the policies, procedures, and compliance guidelines of the college.
  14. Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, strategic and service initiatives. Adheres to the organization’s policies & procedures and compliance guidelines.
  15. Per the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act),a federal consumer protection law, your job position entails functions that meet the definition of a Campus Security Authority (CSA).  CSAs have a duty to report any crime to the College’s Clery Compliance Officer. This information may be disclosed to them directly, through third-party, or witnessed. As a CSA, you are required to complete annual training which is provided by the College. This training encompasses your role, responsibilities, and reporting obligations.
  16. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Ability to translate educational and professional experience into the student learning environment.
  • Ability to provide positive motivation and encourage student participation.
  • Ability to keep up with new trends and developments in classroom technology.
  • Effective planning, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Written and computer skills needed to prepare course materials.
  • Analytical skills to evaluate and report student learning outcomes.

Education, Certification, Licensure:

  • Master’s Degree in Psychology, Counseling, or Social Work, OR
  • Master’s Degree in another discipline with 18 graduate credits in Psychology, Counseling, or Social Work.

Experience:

  • Two years of teaching experience; ideally at the community college level.

Working Environment:

  • The job responsibilities of this position are performed in an office environment which requires a professional image and demeanor, on-time attendance and reliability. The environment has minimal, if any, discomfort due to heat, cold or dust. There is minimal noise within the environment.
  • Travel to other campus locations is required.
  • Travel for conferences/training/workshops is required.
  • Duties are performed in an independent atmosphere without close direct supervision.
  • The job has intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward (5- 45 pounds).
  • Must meet reasonable and sometimes shifting deadlines, quotas, or demands for accuracy, and may occasionally be involved in sensitive conversations with students or staff members.
  • Typical work schedule is 8:00am – 4:30pm with flexible or extended hours as needed by department demands.
