Individuals hired into this position will be employed by EDUStaff and assigned to Mid Michigan College.

Overview

The responsibilities of this position consist of teaching mathematics to students in the community college setting.  This position holds accountability for instruction, student assessment, and evaluation of a diverse student population. 

 

This position involves teaching college level Math classes at the Mt. Pleasant and/or Harrison Michigan campuses. We have opportunities beginning in October 2023 in Mt. Pleasant as follows:

 

  • MAT.105.M04 MW 10-1120 LB 174 Mt. Pleasant October 23-Dec 18--Intermediate Algebra

    MAT.105.M05 TTH 1130-1250 LB 174 Mt. Pleasant October 23-Dec 18--Intermediate Algebra

Responsibilities

  1. Teaches assigned classroom courses.
  2. Develops and updates syllabi for courses assigned and ensures course content and requirements meet the requirements of college and accreditation agencies.
  3. Develops appropriate assessment tools to determine course effectiveness and assures that student outcomes are achieved.
  4. Assesses student academic achievement and provides students with timely and meaningful feedback on progress in the course(s).
  5. Maintains and reports appropriate classroom records, to include student attendance and grades.
  6. Holds appropriate office hours for meeting with and assisting students.
  7. Maintains regular communication with Library and Learning Services staff.
  8. Attends and participates in staff meetings and in-service programs within the department and college-wide.
  9. Supports and serves as a role model for the college mission, values, and student service initiatives.
  10. Adheres to the objectives, policies, procedures, and compliance guidelines of the college. Ensures all communications and practices demonstrate support of the Ethics for Teaching Professionals.
  11. Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, strategic and service initiatives. Adheres to the organization’s policies & procedures and compliance guidelines.
  12. Per the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act),a federal consumer protection law, your job position entails functions that meet the definition of a Campus Security Authority (CSA).  CSAs have a duty to report any crime to the College’s Clery Compliance Officer. This information may be disclosed to them directly, through third-party, or witnessed. As a CSA, you are required to complete annual training which is provided by the College. This training encompasses your role, responsibilities, and reporting obligations.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Ability to translate educational and professional experience into the student learning environment.
  • Ability to provide positive motivation and encourage student participation.
  • Ability to keep up with new trends and developments in classroom technology.
  • Effective planning, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Written and computer skills needed to prepare course materials.
  • Analytical skills to evaluate and report student learning outcomes.

Education, Certification, Licensure:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education with a Math Endorsement or
  • Master’s degree in another discipline with 18 graduate credits in Mathematics.

Experience:

  • Two years of teaching experience; ideally at the community college level.

Working Environment:

  • The job responsibilities of this position are performed in an office environment which requires a professional image and demeanor, on-time attendance and reliability. The environment has minimal, if any, discomfort due to heat, cold or dust. There is minimal noise within the environment.
  • There may be travel to other campus locations for meetings. Travel between campus locations is required.
  • Job duties may be performed in an independent or team atmosphere.
  • The job has intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward (5- 45 pounds).
  • Must meet reasonable and sometimes shifting deadlines, quotas, or demands for accuracy, and may be involved in some sensitive or unpleasant situations.
  • Work scheduled may vary each semester depending on class times/locations.
