Individuals hired into this position will be employed by EDUStaff and assigned to Mid Michigan College.

Overview

Position involves preparing for and teaching and assessing courses in physics and related physical science courses. Course assignments may occur in a classroom setting, learning lab, online or dual enrollment environment.  This position holds accountability for instruction, student assessment, and evaluation of a diverse student population.

Responsibilities

  1. Teaches assigned classroom courses.
  2. Maintains and reports appropriate classroom records: g., grades, attendance, etc.
  3. Reviews, selects and orders course books and other instructional materials.
  4. Works collaboratively with other departmental faculty on projects aimed at assessing and improving student learning.
  5. Contributes to, and engages the department in the General Education, Assessment, Curriculum Committees, and other committees.
  6. Develops and updates syllabi for courses assigned and ensures course content and requirements meet college and accreditation requirements. 
  7. Holds office hours for assisting and advising students.
  8. May be asked to assist with building class schedule for areas of discipline.
  9. Attends, facilitates, and/or leads staff meetings and in-service programs within the department and college-wide.
  10. Supports and serves as a role model for the college mission, values, strategic and student service initiatives.
  11. Adheres to the policies, procedures, and compliance guidelines of the college. Ensures support for the Teaching Profession Code of Ethics.
  12. Per the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act),a federal consumer protection law, your job position entails functions that meet the definition of a Campus Security Authority (CSA).  CSAs have a duty to report any crime to the College’s Clery Compliance Officer. This information may be disclosed to them directly, through third-party, or witnessed. As a CSA, you are required to complete annual training which is provided by the College. This training encompasses your role, responsibilities, and reporting obligations.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Knowledge of course content and objectives.
  • Ability to develop and effectively deliver course content/objectives and facilitate an effective learning environment for students to maximize their success.
  • Knowledge of computer and educational technology and the ability to effectively integrate technology into the classroom.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to work with others in a collaborative manner.

Education:

  • Master’s degree in Geology, Earth Science, Physical Science, or closely related field or sub discipline preferred..

Experience:

  • Two years of teaching experience, preferably at the community college level, preferred. Experience teaching on line or other non-classroom methodology desirable. 
  • Individuals should have additional knowledge/education/experience in one (or more) of the following: Eath Science, Physical Science, Geology..
  • Experience working with student assessment.

Working Environment:

  • The job responsibilities of this position are performed in a classroom environment which requires a professional image and demeanor, on-time attendance and reliability. The environment has little, if any discomfort due to heat, cold or dust. There is light noise within the environment.
  • There may be travel to other college locations for meetings.  Travel between campus locations is required.
  • Job duties may be performed in an independent or a team atmosphere.
  • The job has intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward (5- 45 pounds).
  • Must meet reasonable and sometimes shifting deadlines, quotas, or demands for accuracy, and may be involved in some unpleasant situations.
  • Work scheduled may vary each semester depending on class times/locations.
