Overview

The responsibilities of this position consist of developing and teaching courses in Art Education in both online and face-to-face settings at our Mt. Pleasant campus. Additional studio classes in Art and/or Graphic Design may also be available. This position holds accountability for instruction, student assessment, and evaluation of a diverse student population. The first class is scheduled for January 2025, but if the candidate is willing to develop both an online and face-to-face class, payment for course development would occur once development is completed and approved. 

 

This position will remain open until filled. In most cases, hiring decisions for the Fall Semester are made during July, and hiring decisions for the Winter Semester made during November. Applications will remain in our applicant pool unless a candidate requests to be removed. The College reserves the right to close the recruitment process once a sufficient applicant pool has been identified.

 

Responsibilities

  1. Teaches assigned classroom courses.
  2. Primary curricular area of responsibility is to maintain, develop, and teach Art Education courses.
  3. Develops and maintains connections with the graphic design industry, arts community and regional businesses to maintain a relevant curriculum.
  4. Consistently assess learning outcomes and assist in developing strategies for quality improvement.
  5. Develops and updates syllabi for Art courses and ensures course content and requirements meet college and accreditation requirements.
  6. Develops appropriate assessment tools to determine course effectiveness and assures that student outcomes are achieved.
  7. Maintains regular communication with full-time and adjunct faculty in the assigned departments(s), and the Library and Learning Services area, and Registrar and Retention Services.
  8. Works collaboratively with the Full-time Faculty in the discipline area in refining and modifying existing courses.
  9. Evaluates student academic achievement and provides students with timely and meaningful feedback on progress in the course(s).
  10. Maintains and reports appropriate classroom records, such as student attendance and grades.
  11. Holds appropriate office hours for meeting with and assisting students.
  12. Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, and student service initiatives.
  13. Attends and participates in staff meetings and in-service programs within the department and college-wide; serves on college committees as encouraged/assigned.
  14. Adheres to the policies, procedures, and compliance guidelines of the college. Ensures support for the Teaching Profession Code of Ethics.
  15. Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, strategic and service initiatives. Adheres to the organization’s policies & procedures and compliance guidelines.
  16. Per the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), a federal consumer protection law, your job position entails functions that meet the definition of a Campus Security Authority (CSA).  CSAs have a duty to report any crime to the College’s Clery Compliance Officer. This information may be disclosed to them directly, through third-party, or witnessed. As a CSA, you are required to complete annual training which is provided by the College. This training encompasses your role, responsibilities, and reporting obligations.
  17. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Ability to translate educational and professional experience into the student learning environment.
  • Ability to provide positive motivation and encourage student participation.
  • Ability to keep up with new trends and developments in classroom technology.
  • Effective planning, organizational, and communication skills.
    Written and computer skills needed to prepare course materials.
  • Analytical skills to evaluate and report student learning outcomes.

Education, Certification, Licensure:

  • Master’s Degree in Art, or Master’s Degree in another discipline, with at least 18 master’s level credits in Art.

 Experience:

  • One - three years of teaching experience in Art or Design courses preferred.

Working Environment: 

  • The job responsibilities of this position are performed in an office environment which requires a professional image and demeanor, on-time attendance and reliability. The environment has minimal, if any, discomfort due to heat, cold or dust. There is minimal noise within the environment.
  • Travel to other campus locations is required.
  • Travel for conferences/training/workshops is required.
  • Duties are performed in an independent atmosphere without close direct supervision.
  • The job has intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward (5- 45 pounds).
  • Must meet reasonable and sometimes shifting deadlines, quotas, or demands for accuracy, and may occasionally be involved in sensitive conversations with students or staff members.
  • Typical work schedule is 8:00am – 4:30pm with flexible or extended hours as needed by department demands.
