Individuals hired into this position will be employed by EDUStaff and assigned to Mid Michigan College.

Overview

The responsibilities of this position consist of teaching in a traditional classroom environment as well as in laboratory settings. This position will have accountability for student instruction, recruitment, assessment, and evaluation of a diverse student population. 

 

This is a new program and will require skills to recruit and retain students who are interested in a career in agriculture. To successfully accomplish this, the individual will need to establish relationships with local and state agriculture educators, agriculture producers, agriculture businesses and state and federal agencies such as The United States Department of Agriculture, Michigan Department of Agriculture, as well as state and county Soil and Water Conservation Districts. 

 

Mid is seeking an instructor to teach the following course for the winter 2025 semester: 

 

AGR.102.M01 Introduction to Animal Science is offered on M, W 5:30-6:50 PM for the lecture and TH 5:30-7:15 PM for the lab. 

 

**Review of applications will begin on November 1, 2024 and the position will remain open until filled.** 

 

Responsibilities

  1. Teaches assigned agriculture courses.
  2. Acts as an advisor to an appropriate student agriculture association.
  3. Develops and updates syllabi for courses assigned and ensures course content and requirements meet the requirements of college and accreditation agencies.
  4. Develop appropriate assessment tools to determine course effectiveness and ensure that student outcomes are achieved.
  5. Assesses student academic achievement and provides students with timely and meaningful feedback on progress in the course(s).
  6. Maintains and reports appropriate classroom records, including student attendance and grades.
  7. Holds appropriate office hours for meeting with and assisting students.
  8. Maintains regular communication with Library and Learning Services staff.
  9. Attends and participates in staff meetings and in-service programs within the department and college-wide.
  10. Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, and student service initiatives.
  11. Adheres to the objectives, policies, procedures, and compliance guidelines of the college. Ensures all communications and practices demonstrate support of the Ethics for Teaching Professionals.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Ability to translate educational and professional experience into the student learning environment.
  • Ability to provide positive motivation and encourage student participation.
  • Ability to keep up with new trends and developments in classroom technology.
  • Effective planning, organizational, and communication skills.
    Written and computer skills needed to prepare and organize course materials through teaching and learning software such as: Moodle, Blackboard or Canvas
  • Analytical skills to evaluate and report student learning outcomes.

Education, Certification, Licensure:

  • Preferred minimum of a Master of Science in Agriculture, Animal Science, Agronomy, or closely related field or
  • Master’s degree in another discipline with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in Agriculture, Animal Science, Agronomy, or closely related field or
  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Animal Science, Agronomy, or closely related field with 1-2 years of agricultural work-related experience.

Experience:

  • Two years of teaching experience; ideally at the community college level.
  • Agriculture background and experience in production agriculture or agriculture business.

 

Working Environment:

  • The job responsibilities of this position are performed in a classroom environment which requires a professional image and demeanor, on-time attendance and reliability. The classroom environment has little, if any discomfort due to heat, cold or dust. There is light noise within the environment.
  • The laboratory environment will involve inside as well as outside experiences. The outdoor laboratories potential may have discomfort due to heat, cold, dust, smell and noise in the environment.
  • There may be travel to other college locations for meetings. Travel between campus locations is required.
  • Job duties may be performed in an independent or a team atmosphere.
  • The job has intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward (5- 45 pounds).
  • Ability to create program classroom-related materials in an organized manner, quotas, or demands for accuracy, and may be involved in some unpleasant situations.
  • Work scheduled may vary each semester depending on class times/locations.
  • Ability to travel to Mid’s Harrison and Mt. Pleasant Campus locations.
